Welcome to Mrs. Wooten's Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) website!  For those of you whom I have not had the privilege to meet, my name is Carol Wooten and I am looking forward to an amazing 2025-2026 school year! This year is my 28th year at Hunter GT/AIG Elementary and I am always in awe of the students’ level of excitement with learning.

After 24 years of teaching fifth grade math and science, I had the opportunity to move into the role of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM) teacher during the 2022-2023 school year. This role means that I will be able to focus on hands-on, inquiry-based STEAM electives and specials for the entire school. Additionally, I will be instructing the exciting 6+ math program. I look forward to enriching the love of STEAM across all grade levels!

You will find much information in the left-hand column of this website. For example, there is an “All about Me” section to learn more about your teacher, a “Curriculum” section for what content is being taught in the classroom, a “Homework Corner” section with weekly assignments posted, and many more tabs to investigate.

Students also enjoy the “Resources” section where they will discover educational games and videos. Feel free to explore the site!

IMPORTANT DATES
WCPSS 2025-2026 Instructional Calendar

SCHEDULE INFORMATION
The school day begins at 9:15 am and concludes at 3:45 pm.  Students at all grade levels will have the opportunity to select electives. Math classes are held from 9:30 am-10:30 am daily.

PARENT COMMUNICATION
Communication will be through email. The “Homework Corner” will be updated weekly. If you have any questions, you can reach me via email at [email protected].

SUPPLIES AND HOMEWORK
6+ math students will need the following supplies for class daily: one marble composition notebook, one pencil, homework (if applicable), and a charged device. On Mondays, students will also need their Monday folder for returned papers and their planner to write down homework.

Since 6+ math is a middle school level class, homework will be written in planners each Monday. There will be an assignment due almost daily. These assignments will also be posted on the homework chart in the room as well as the website.

MATH PORTFOLIO INFORMATION
In 6+ math, we keep very detailed portfolios on the mathematics work of each child. These portfolios are extremely beneficial at the end of the year for evidence showing academic growth. Therefore, please return ALL graded math work in the Monday folder to me to file in the portfolio.  Completed homework does not need to be returned. Students also have a digital portfolio they are using to showcase work samples. Thank you in advance for your assistance in ensuring a high quality portfolio.
